No Heat Hairstyle’s For Summer
I am beyond excited to get this weekend started! I am heading up to New York State to attend a wedding at West Point. This wedding is particularly special to me as I will be seeing people I refer to as my second family. For those of you who don’t know me that well, before I worked in the fashion industry in NYC, I lived up in Massachusetts and worked with children. I actually received my college degree in early childhood education and psychology…my background had very little to do with fashion. Shortly after graduation and my relocation back to MA, I signed on to work with one particular child, Aidan. When I first started working with Aidan he had just had his first birthday and his grandparents had very recently taken custody of him. Shortly after I started working with him we took him to Boston’s Children’s Hospital and it was confirmed that he did indeed have Autism. I worked with Aidan for a few years and I am happy to say he just celebrated his 8th birthday in January and has since tested off the autistic spectrum…No one makes me prouder than that little boy.
Through my time spent with Aidan and his family members ( His Dad: Matthew, Aunts: Carrie & Katie, Uncle: Brian & Grandparents: Steve & Mary) I changed as a person. I truly believe other than my own family- those eight individuals are responsible for shaping me into who I am today. They taught me so much about life and what it means to do for others and open your heart to people who need you most. The best gift I have ever received was an envelope the family gave me on my last day with them. The envelope contained a letter from each of them saying how much I not only impacted Aidan’s life but changed theirs…little did they know they were the ones I should have been thanking.
I have kept in touch with the family over the years and I am very close with Aidan’s aunt Katie and thats who’s wedding I will be attending at West Point this weekend. The last time I saw Aidan in person was three years ago…words can not express how excited I am to see my ” little” man. I will be sure to let you all know how the wedding and my reunion with Aidan goes 🙂
Have a beautiful weekend and be sure to always look around you for those little miracles in life.
It’s finally Friday, and each week I am always excited for the weekend to finally be here, as I am sure you all are. But recently this weather has been brining me down and messing up my fun springtime weekends plans. I love springtime for the flowers, birds chirping and the fashion of course, but the past two years I have noticed more and more rain (it also always seem to come at its worst on the weekends). This weekend we are even expecting a nor’easter – I mean seriously!?!? Its been putting me in the mood for that summer weather more than usual, bring on the sunshine and tan lines!
Speaking of summer tan lines, Memorial Day weekend is almost here and that for me is the official start of summer, I know techinally it’s June 21st, but every year on Memorial Day weekend my husband and I head out to the Hamptons to visit his parents and (hopefully) spend the weekend by the pool with cocktails in hand and delicious seafood to celebrate the summer’s beginning! In Southampton its also the time that all those who ‘summer’ in the Hamptons begin the trip out and start taking over the beaches and restaurants, the town actually plans its seasonal store/restaurant openings based on Memorial day. Since my birthday is also around the corner, my in-laws always plan a little celebration for me while we are visiting. I always look forward to this weekend, and cannot wait for that sunshine more than ever!
Cheers to another good week!
