Two years ago I was trying to determine what I was going to wear for a night out with friends, when I became frustrated that I just had nothing to wear (a common response while I stand in front of two full closets worth of clothes) and it is not that I have nothing to wear, I obvious have plenty of items in my closet, it’s that nothing felt like me at that moment and I wasn’t happy about it. I always want to feel good in the clothes I am wearing because if you feel good, then you look good, and that’s all that should matter. Caitlin Moran said it best when she said “When a woman says, ‘I have nothing to wear!’, what she really means is, ‘There’s nothing here for who I’m supposed to be today.”
I left for work that Friday morning in a bad mood still thinking about my limited options, and continued thinking about it all day. When I arrived home that afternoon, I went right to my closet to begin pulling items out, still very frustrated. When Robert came home a little while later, he came into the bedroom with a target bag in hand and a surprise for me. He said that on his way home from work that day he stopped at Target, since it’s right near his office, and he picked me up this maxi dress hoping it would be something I might like for that night out. Honestly, my heart just melted, I have the best husband in the world for being so thoughtful! When he pulled out this beautiful maxi dress, I was so happy because it was exactly what I was looking for, and finally something that felt like me! I have always known Robert had a wonderful taste in clothes, to be honest I had terrible fashion sense before meeting him. I was a tomboy, wearing yoga pants more often then I should and usually whatever was comfortable. That has drastically changed and I am happy for that! Now I wear heels just about everyday, and find clothes that look great on me, and not just because they are comfortable. I feel more myself in my clothes, rather then hiding behind them. Clothes are more than what you’re wearing, but who you are or want to be, and that is a beautiful thing!
I knew I had to write a post about this maxi dress, not only because it’s such a sweet love story that I was happy to share, but because to this day, two years later, I still receive about a million compliments every time I wear it. I even receive compliments from people on the streets when I wear it, not just friends or people I know, but random kind compliments. It is also such a comfortable dress, it’s one of those comfortable yet looks good on me kind of items that I swear by!
This dress is very flattering with a cinching high waist and the buttons on the front give it a tailored look. I love the sleeveless style, making it perfect for a summer day or night. The pattern is also very fun, black is a good basic color allowing versatility, and with the colorful pattern within, it is very fun as well. Since this is from two seasons ago, I have link some similar styles below for you. Simple, comfortable, and affordable are the keys to this item, and after two years of telling people where to buy it, it’s about time I share it with everyone here!
