When it comes to hosting, I love to think about the little things. When it comes to hosting a big holiday I always want something special that has people saying wow! A specialty cocktail can be that little thing that brings in the wow factor! Since I began the tradition last year, I knew I had to bring another great cocktail to the table this year too. This time I am so excited to serve my cocktail from our brand new Media/Bar Cabinet from Crate & Barrel!
A good bar is essential for hosting, and is helpful for storage or to hideaway the alcohol when not in use. R and I love having all sorts of different ingredients for drinks, even if we don’t drink them ourselves, so that everyone can have their favorite cocktail. This does however, leave us with lot’s to store that sits until our next event. With that problem a good bar with storage is essential for us, and our new Bar/Media Cabinet not only covers the storage for our bar items, but also for our TV media items too! It also doesn’t hurt that this piece has style too, what else could you ask for?!
Now lets talk cocktails! When I host I like to have appetizers and drinks (alcoholic and not) available for everyone upon arrival, that way I can continue with my cooking and prepping and everyone can enjoy themselves. I thought it would be fun to include a seasonal specialty cocktail when I hosted Thanksgiving, so last year began the tradition with a yummy champagne cocktail, this year I decided on a seasonal punch so everyone could enjoy it, and one could add the alcohol if they wanted to. I of course tested out which liquor would work best and how much, to make sure it would be delicious!
Sparking Ginger Apple Punch with Muddled Cranberries
Ingredients: 2 Cups Fresh Cranberries
1/2 Cup Sugar
64 oz Spiced Apple Cider
72 oz Ginger Beer
2 Cups Orange Juice
2 TBS Fresh Lemon Juice
Directions: Muddle the cranberries in a bowl with sugar.
Cover with plastic and let sit in the fridge for at least an hour.
Place the muddled cranberries in the bottom of the pitcher or punch bowl.
Pour the apple cider, ginger beer, orange juice, and lemon juice over the top and stir to combine.
Refrigerate until completely chilled.
*Add one jigger (shot and a half) of vodka to spice it up (Optional)
I enjoyed testing out this recipe, it got me in the mood for Thanksgiving even more than I already was! What I learned and suggest for my host friends out there. When setting up your drink station make sure to include a mixer glass so people can make their own cocktail if they choose. I also suggest including an open ginger beer bottle since after stirring your mixed drink together, you can loose the fizzle the ginger beer offers. Topping it off with just a little splash is suggested!
