Happy Friday Friends!
We did it, another week down…is anyone else counting down the days until summer & beach weather?!? This past month has been a bit crazy with my job transition, traveling and being sick, so I’ve been taking the weekends to de-stress. I don’t know about you but when I am stressed I let it affect my entire life, its defiantly a major flaw of mine, but always working on methods to help. Stress first starts by affecting my heath: I get sick a lot when I get stressed and also get “fun” stress-hives all over my neck and face (if anyone else gets these, let me know if you’ve found anything helpful!). Secondly, my stress effects my overall mood – I get very bummed out on life and let it trickle down and effect everything I do. I’ve found that I need to not overbook my weekends and really focus on taking those days to re-charge my batteries. I have been trying to stay more positive and healthy and I wanted to take the time to share some things I have found helpful with all of you.
1.) Working Out: I joined ClassPass after the holidays and am really loving it! (I will be doing a full review post in May, so stay tuned for that).Working out and taking classes has really helped me feel good about myself, but also helps me sleep better at night. I tend to take my classes first thing in the mornings, usually around 5am because I have no other time during the day – but I find that making that time helps me feel more accomplished by days end.
2.) NO PHONE: Some of my happiness has involved being more present in the moment and ditching my phone whenever I can. I have a job where I really need to be on email and reachable 24/7 but I have really been trying to just turn off my cell phone at night and on weekends – anyone who needs to reach me typically knows I do that now and that if they get my VM to just leave a message. Doing this really helps completely recharge and be hands-off. Too much social media really isn’t good for anyone!
3.) Don’t Wait: Do not wait to let life bring you happiness, make it. I have spent to much of my time the past few years living for other people and not myself, so I made a new years resolution that I will be better in-tune to priorities and who and whats important. I also have realized that every day isn’t going to be perfect. Life is messy and hard sometimes so you really need to stay focused on the good in your life – really ask yourself that – whats making you smile? ..and do more of that!
4.) Quiet Time: I have ALWAYS been an “on the move” kinda girl. You will rairly see me sitting still and a lot of my life that has worked to my benefit, I always get everything done but at a cost..my health and sanity. I’ve found it helpful that during the daily chaos to take quiet time for me…especially on the weekends. This doesnt mean you have to sit in silence and meditate – but make time for you, or with the people you love to just be… enjoy each others company. You do not always need to make plans, fill your weekends with travel etc – stay home some weekends and do nothing! – It really is the best!
I hope that some of what I’ve shared you take to heart…Try these things out for yourself if you too are having trouble focusing, de-stressing etc.. If you have anything you do to keep your life positive and stress-free please leave a comment below, I would love to hear them! Have a great weekend!
This past weekend Robert and I went on a mini trip to New Haven, CT. I needed to be there for a work conference so he came along to keep me company. It isn’t an area that we have spent much time before, but had heard from many people about good spots to eat, including a spot that claims to have invented the hamburger! Robert is a big historian, or at least is very interested in history, and he was excited when he heard about Louis’ Lunch! The menu is very simple only including the original burger, potato salad, chips, homemade pie by the slice, and a variety of drinks. The hamburger is to this day still made with the original cast-iron grills dated back to 1898 when the Lassen family had made what they claim to be the first hamburger. While visiting the small hamburger shop, and pushing through the crowds of people taking photos and ordering food, Robert was asked by the cook to do him a favor, he asked Robert to yell down a stairwell close by for Mike to grab a few more cases of root beer, which he did. After Mike came up the stairs with the root beer he began chatting with Robert and I and we ended up having a friendly conversation learning even more about this great little hamburger shop, and this only made me like this place even more, absolutely worth the visit!
We stopped at a couple other yummy spots while visiting the New Haven area that we would recommend like the famous Shake Shack! We haven’t ever had Shake Shack before, and loved it. Few times in my life have I ever taken a bite of something and actually sat back in complete satisfaction, best burger by far! Robert being the history buff researched a great little bar named Anchor Spa. Many artists and musicians drank here since its opening in 1933 one of which being Jim Morrison, who on December 9, 1967 was arrested as he performed onstage at the New Haven Arena, making him the first rock star ever taken into custody during the middle of a performance. We assumed this must have been the same visit where he sat in this same bar enjoying a drink himself. It is always surreal to sit in a place and think about the stories of others who have also sat there.
Another stop we made was Yale University, talk about history! It was fun pretending to search for colleges again and gaining a tour from a current student, in all honestly I believe they knew that we were more interested in a tour of the campus then of the college itself, but they still offered us an insight into the campus life. It always surprises me to find such amazing places, with such rich history just down the road from where I live. I am happy my husband does his research when we travel and brings me to experience these yummy restaurants and interested spots with him, it makes it even more enjoyable! Do you have a famous or well known place near you? Share your favorite locations with me, and maybe its something I will try when I am in your area next!
To update you all on my face crème research. I just ordered a new product from a company called Nilotic. I am excited to try both the anti aging crème as well as the Body crème. These products are all natural and good for the environment – more on that to come!

Cheers to another good week!
